CBD’s Health Benefits

CBD has a wide range of therapeutic uses and extensive medicinal benefits. From the mid-1990’s, researchers began exploring its effects on the body’s systems. Early discoveries about CBD are now starting to reach consumers.

CBD is non-addictive (WHO)
In 2018, the World Health Organization (WHO) Expert Committee on Narcotic Drugs, formulated an opinion about the medical properties of the cannabinoid CBD (cannabidiol) in a report entitled: CBD is a molecule with extensive medical potential. The Expert Committee officially states: “No potential harm or addiction has been shown to result from the use of CBD”. In studies of experimental models of addiction, it has been found that CBD has no addictive effect.

Does not substitute THC
In tests of addictive drugs conducted on animals, it was found that CBD could not be used as a substitute for THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). CBD is widely used by patients around the world, and it has been shown that people do not develop dependence on CBD nor can CBD be misused or abused.

Human CBD Research
A large number of phytocannabinoid studies have been conducted on laboratory rats and mice. As the mechanisms of action on humans and rodents are the same, many studies demonstrating the effect of CBD on a rats or mice are sufficient for understanding the mechanism on humans. It is difficult to conduct cannabis studies on humans due to legal and regulatory issues. On a global level, human trials are expensive and complicated due to the ‘International Protection of Persons Undergoing Medical Experimentation’ treaty which requires patient consent to participate in experimental medical procedures.
The AES (American Epilepsy Community) conducted a comprehensive study on humans which demonstrated that CBD is effective in treating and minimizing epilepsy damage, without side effects or other harmful effects. The drug Epidiolex, developed for the treatment of epilepsy, has already undergone clinical trials, has been approved by the US FDA, and is beginning to reach the shelves for the treatment of DRAVET syndrome and LGS (Lennox-Gastaut syndrome).
Recently, many patients have been using CBD products available on the web, including oils, capsules, vapor cartridges, suppositories, creams, ointments and more. This is of great significance since we do not see emergency rooms full of patients with poisoning or other CBD-related morbidities.
Cannabidiol has a good safety profile and is easily tolerated by the body, which means its toxicity on humans is very low.
